Wellness Wheel Update!!

This is my wellness wheel updated! I think from the first time I created this wheel it was very unbalanced. Now that I have implemented more of an effective balance of all six categories I am overall doing better as far as my physical/mental health and overall well-being.  Comparing my old wheel to the newer more updated version, my biggest sections of colors are social, intellectual, (physical, environmental, and spiritual) all being equal to 15%. This assignment has shown growth in areas I aspired to improve, and I did. My next goal is to improve my emotional state a bit more and ill will be overall balanced and improving every day.

Module 5: Mandala Meditation

I decided to create my own mandala. I watched the video and I found it quite difficult at first because technology is so hard to maneuver sometimes. As time went by, the process became more and more interesting especially with the use of different shapes and colors because the colors I chose are literally my moods, the shapes were random, but they fit in my vision is that makes sense. During the creation of my mandala, I picked mostly bright colors because I am almost always in a really good mood. I tried if you zoom out to create a sun shape in my mandala because I usually brighten up another people’s day. The darker colors were for those days we have when we feel gloomy and not ourselves. I did not really have any difficulties except in the beginning when starting, but 5 minutes in I eventually got the hang of what I was doing and the vision I would like to create. My exact thoughts when creating this was, I wanted it to be pretty but also represent me as a person, it represe...

Module 4: What Works for you? Interview

I interviewed my mom, brother, and roommate and asked them how they deal with the stress and anxiety that life throws at us. My mom uses retail therapy and gospel music to relax her mind, self care is the best care. While my brother is the type to run away from his problem, he goes to work or pick up shifts to get his mind off of what’s bothering him. My roommate goes to the gym, plays the piano, and listens to music to release her stress and anxiety. I personally sleep, cry, or binge-watch really good shows on Netflix to release stress. I am typically not an emotional person, but when I am stress I am also not the type to bottle my emotions up, I’d rather talk about what’s bothering me. My mom and my roommate’s ways to release stress especially listening to music can definitely relax you this is a healthy method to release stress. I love to spring clean my home while listening to music, it is such a relaxing environment knowing that everything is clean and the energy is positive. As f...

Module 3: Perception of Nature

When doing this assignment is was definitely relaxing. Today, it wasn’t hot outside, and there weren’t any bugs so I had the chance to enjoy nature and all that it entails. I chose to sit in the backyard of my parent’s house because they always have the weirdest animals at the weirdest times and they have a really comfortable patio. Surprisingly, I saw a family of kittens and a mother cat come from under my parent’s neighbors wooden fence. I also saw birds land on the fence and prey on lizards. During this experience, I heard car engines, the whistling of the breeze, and distant bird chirps. This experience made me catch myself thinking out loud, rather than 100% relaxing I caught myself reflecting on the week and what I think I could’ve done better or improved to help my mental health. Yesterday, I had taken a midterm exam and I am still stressed out about the exam, I studied and truly did my best but this is literally the last cours...

Module 2: Creative Motivation Project

Sweat, Tears, and Determination This drawing is the purpose of my life. I actually have a red car and that car is a symbol of my hard work and experience I have endured to get where I am today. As you can see the beginning of the roadmap was me experiencing violence and wrongful convictions, unjustified killings, and innocent bystanders being killed due to violence. I’ve also seen Black men from my neighborhood get unjustified sentences for minor crimes and I desired to become a lawyer to help not only innocent people get justice but to prosecute the actual criminals which are contemporarily (law enforcement.) In my opinion, making a difference is something that brings me happiness it doesn’t have to be an international debut, but a small contribution can lead to something much bigger. College, in general, is tough and rigorous but mentally I have prepared myself for the future I am working towards. I cope with the stress of this last semester of undergrad by staying on top of th...

Module 1: Wellness Wheel

Tiana's Introduction

My name is Tiana Brown and I am from Orlando, FL. I was living in Gainesville for the past four years, but I recently moved back to Orlando due to COVID. I am a 4th year African American Studies major with a double minor in innovation and education at the University of Florida. After I graduate, I am undecided if I want to go to UF Law School or to apply for UF Graduate School to pursue my masters. The possible career options I am interested in are becoming a lawyer, teacher, or going into politics, so I plan to either use my major or minor and run with it. Besides education, I am a part of a family of four, my mom, dad, and brother. I am the only girl so of course, I am spoiled rotten, unfortunately. My mom has always been a really great good and also my dad, but I learned a lot of cooking techniques from my mom. So, naturally, I have taken up the hobby of great cooking. This is one of my favorite hobbies because I am a good seasoner when it comes to preparing dishes. One of my favo...

Tiana's Personal Reflection

We all have encountered some type of stress and anxiety in our lives and especially as a college student I think that stress and anxiety are tripled. We encounter the life of a heavy workload, adjustability, and adulthood all in one. I chose to take SDS3482 Stress and Anxiety Management at the University of Florida to find ways in which I can control my own stress and anxiety while not only getting through college but life in general. This Fall 2020 semester has not only been an extremely tough semester for us students but also our professors and families who have been affected by the Black Lives Matter’s Protests, Elections, and last but not least the COVID pandemic we are still fighting. These three topics have caused an unbearable amount of stress on not only myself but others around me, and this course has taught me some strategies to help me reduce my own stress and anxiety levels.  When reflecting on our stressors, it is important to know what stresses us out as a per...
